Milestone of happiness

Updated: Jun 9

I used to live in a society where people worked hard from a young age to adulthood to achieve success. Most of these achievements were tied to the societal system. Common goals included excelling in school and securing well-paid jobs. These efforts help individuals grow and push their limits to overcome challenges. However, there are significant drawbacks to this approach.

Societal Pressure and Timelines

When achievements are linked to a timeline, they become markers of maturity and happiness. Society's rigid expectations pressure people to conform and strive to be "good" as defined by others. This pressure can make people lose touch with themselves and forget the simple joys of life, often only feeling satisfied after completing tasks or reaching life milestones.

Impact on Recreation and Personal Fulfillment

Even recreational activities are just seen as breaks from the stressful routine. People may become rigid thinkers, unaware of their true potential and opportunities, feeling lost if they don't follow the predefined path. For example, someone might not recognize their potential just because of their age. This is especially concerning when happiness is tied to achieving milestones.

Personal Experience with Societal Expectations

I experienced the frustration and exhaustion of constantly chasing an ever-moving goal. I realized I was setting too many conditions for happiness, making it seem out of reach.

Finding a New Perspective

Fortunately, I discovered a book called "Hardwiring Happiness," which taught me about the patterns of negative and positive thinking. From this book, I learned to appreciate small moments of happiness and change my thinking patterns to find fulfillment in life.

Conclusion

Through this journey, I came to understand the importance of breaking free from societal pressures and finding joy in everyday moments. This shift in perspective has allowed me to live a more fulfilling and balanced life.
